Overview

hushtype is for Mac users on Apple silicon who want to dictate into any app without sending their voice to a cloud service. Cleanup changes per app, so chat, email and code editors each get their own wording.

NVIDIA Parakeet V3 transcribes on the Mac. At the start of each recording hushtype reads the frontmost app, window title and browser address through Accessibility and picks a mode. An optional pass through Ollama or any OpenAI-compatible server then strips fillers and false starts under a short deadline.

A hygiene check rejects edits that add words, change numbers or drop a negation, and any timeout or error pastes the raw transcript instead. If the focused control will not take a paste, the text stays on the clipboard with a notice. The Tauri app is built on the open-source Handy.

    Custom words fix names the recognizer mishears, and replacements run last.

  • Clipboard fallback

    If an app will not take the paste, the text stays on the clipboard with a notice.

  • One-line install

    A Terminal command downloads the app and model, checks every SHA-256 and installs to Applications.
